Becoming Collegiate Academy is Jacksonville’s first HBCU-inspired elementary school, founded to prepare students for success in college and life. At BCA, we don’t just teach—we inspire. Through exposure to the culture and traditions of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, we empower the next generation of leaders to use their unique gifts to make the world a better place.

In the 2026–2027 school year, BCA will serve Kindergarten–5th grade. As our village continues to grow, we are seeking Elementary Associate Teachers to join our team. Associate Teachers will support classroom instruction, facilitate whole and small-group learning, and assist in creating an engaging, student-centered environment that fosters academic growth and social-emotional development. The Role: 

The Associate Teacher (AT) role is designed for new teachers who have recently entered the teaching profession. ATs work as co-teachers and are certified educators in our classrooms. They are responsible for creating a positive classroom environment, implementing our curriculum, assessing students, collaborating with their team, building relationships with families, and completing other duties as assigned. The specific duties of ATs are ultimately determined by their school leader.

This unique model is structured to provide ATs with opportunities to co-teach using a gradual release model. ATs are placed strategically in one grade level and have meaningful opportunities to practice instructional techniques, engage in whole and small group instruction, and manage a classroom. As the year progresses, ATs take on additional responsibilities.

Qualifications: 

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution
  • Licenses or Certifications: Relevant Florida Teaching Certification or Eligibility for Certification (Florida certification in Pre-K/Primary – Grade 3 OR Elementary Education K-6 is required)

Expectations: We have high expectations for our teachers, which include the following:

  • With support, Teach engaging and culturally relevant lessons daily, meeting academic standards to ensure student success.
  • Take personal responsibility for the progress of all students and have a growth mindset by seeking help, reflecting on one's own teaching, and helping others improve.
  • With support, Plan instruction weekly and daily, aligning it with unit objectives and student needs based on assessment data.
  • Collaborate with grade-level and content teams 
  • Communicate weekly progress with students and families.
  • With support, implement a clear and consistent behavior management system while developing students' character and sense of community in the classroom.
  • Help create a positive learning environment for each student and contribute to the school-wide culture.
  • Build trust, understanding, and respect with students and families from diverse communities.
