A Message to the Becoming Collegiate Academy Community

July 15, 2021

Dear Becoming Collegiate Academy Families,

It is with a heavy heart that I write to share some news about our school. The Board and I have made the difficult decision to postpone the opening of Becoming Collegiate Academy until August 2022.

Founding a new school is a challenging endeavor under the best of circumstances. Opening a school during a pandemic put unforeseen hurdles in our path. Due to Covid-19 related delays, our facility was unable to obtain the proper permits in time for school opening.

We know this decision directly impacts the families of kindergarten students who decided to enroll in Becoming Collegiate Academy. Our number one priority right now is ensuring that all of our families have the opportunity to enroll in a high-quality school for the 2021-22 school year.

We have identified both charter schools and district schools in North Jacksonville that have spaces available for the fall. We are offering office hours next week where we will guide families through the enrollment process. We are following up with families about how to apply to enroll in these schools.

We are aware that many families have purchased Becoming Collegiate Academy uniforms for the next year. We will fully refund all families for the cost of the uniforms.

We are also in the process of working with our teachers to find jobs with other high-performing schools. We are confident that all of our teachers will have teaching job offers by August.

While I wish the outcome had been different for this school year, the Board and I remain committed to creating a tuition-free, HBCU-prep school that is rooted in love, learning, and culture. We are already looking ahead to our opening in August of 2022.
